Question:
By Sleep Terror Disorder, this discussion is intended to be about
a person who awakes suddenly in a state of extreme anxiety or
panic who without any storyline(as opposed to nightmares) is
convinced that something catastrophic is occurring or has just
occurred.
It is often accompanied by physical symptoms such as
tachycardia (accelerated heartbeat) and a choking sensation. It
may or may not also be accompanied by night sweats.
A relative of mine has recently been prescribed valium as an
REM inhibitor to prevent Sleep Terror Disorder.
Although this disorder occurs from time to time in children,
it is much rarer to have it begin in an Adult.
Answer:
I had this terror sleep disorder before cpap. No kidding, as soon as I
started with my cpap, my
terrors went by-by. Thank heaven....I was about to jump out a window, they
were so intense. Mostly,
I woke up screaming, but choking, and all kinds of other nutty stuff went
on. Cpap gives me a nice
quiet sleep.
One year ago I had my first episode of what I later learned was a Night
Terror. I've had many since then. Often several the same night. I
begin screaming out loud, but do not wake up. When one of my family
members shakes me awake, I have no recall of a nightmare or anything
else. They tell me it is often hard to wake me up.
I have been on CPAP just 3 weeks, and have not experienced any Night
Terrors since I started on CPAP. I don't know if they were related to
my sleep apnea or not, however.
I just turned 50, and don't recall ever having Night Terrors as a
child. I have not received any specific treatment for it,
medication-wise. I take meds for my Periodic Limb Movements. No night
sweats. I don't know what my heart rate is, as I am too "out of it"
when it happens to notice. It has also occurred to me during afternoon
naps, not just at night.
I identify with you. Never had them when I was younger. I am
55---maybe has something
to do with menopause...don't know, but nevertheless, CPAP has eliminated
having them,
I'm 63 years old and since Age 23 when ai entered the ARMyY and contracted
a mostoiditis on my right ear I have night terrors They operate my ear and
after that I contracted meningococcal meningitis. i'm
still under V.A. Hospital Care with one flurazeoan 30 mg. 30 minute before
go to bet.
