Question:
I have heard sleep disorders are common to TS,and the doc has also told me
this.
I have it, such as taking hours laying in bed before I can fall asleep,
wake up often during the night, suffer nightmares(increased since the
fire), sleep lightly and even the smallest sound jolts me awake, and am
run-down exhausted and over-tired every day; I don't get enough sleep.
Recently, an e-mail pen pal(from ast) mentioned the overall benefits of
Epsom Salts...and I have put 125 ml in a hot bathtub full of water and
soaked in it,and I find that it always quickly makes me feel sleepy so I
even nod off...and I find it helps me to fall asleep faster at night(I
know it isn't just the hot water, as I tried that before with no difference).
Does anyone know if maybe the magnesium in the Epsom Salts *is* somewhat
of a "remedy" for sleep disorders? Is it possible it does help one to
relax and fall asleep easier...or am I imagining it; is it a coincidence?
Answer:
I'm not sure if it is TS related or not. But I would be willing to bet the
farm, your's is due to the stress you deal with Daily!!!!
I don't know if the sleep problems are ts related. My kids with
ts/ocd have always slept extremely well. Lately though, I started having
problems sleeping and at the suggestion of my chiropractor have tried a
few things that seem to help. #1 is melatonin, pure melatonin, 3mg. at
night. It's amazing after a week how much my sleep had improved. It
takes a few days of grogginess, and then your sleep cycle is more
established. The other is a supplement called myoplex. It is a
combination of magnesium (which you mentioned), calcium in a base of
passion flower and valerian root which are both 100% natural relaxant
alternatives. some even suggest passion flower as an alternative to
prozac.
