Question:
Does anyone know of the UCLA Sleep Disorder Center (not sure if that name is
exactly right), headed by Dr. Frisca Yango? How is it?
Answer:
FWIW, my internist teaches nutrition at UCLA. I complained about his sending me
to Pacific Sleep Medicine Services and asked why he hadn't sent me to the UCLA
clinic. He said he originally was referring his patients to UCLA but some of
them said they were treated poorly/badly/whatever, so he stopped.
UCLA has got the full accreditation. As I understand the accreditation, one of
the things this means is that it has a toilet in every room. This was not the
case with Pacific Sleep Medicine.
My complaint with Pacific was just the 20 year old who was there during the day
and was administratively responsible for that particular office, with no
supervision. Although my internist finally recommended a sleep doctor to me, he
couldn't/wouldn't see me until the 1st of Feb, so I took a close look at the
biographies of the doctors at Pacific (online - search for Pacific Sleep) and
made an appointment for Jan 15 with the local doctor, a neurologist. There are
4 or 5 doctors with different specialties but they are located at one or another
of their 4 or 5 clinics. The primary doctor and clinic is in La Jolla.
Remember that UCLA is a teaching hospital, so you could probably expect things
to be a little different than at private clinic.
All he said was some of his other patients said they weren't treated well. I
didn't ask for any specifics. If I remember, when I see him a week from next
Monday I'll ask.
Someone sent me a message saying there was a good sleep clinic at St. John's
Hospital in Santa Monica. And, of course, I would recommend Pacific for testing
and consulting with sleep doctor, but not buying equipment.
Some nearby friends said that they were referred to a sleep clinic in the area
of Woodland Hills - Canoga Park. If you want the name let me know and I'll find
out.
