Medication for sleep apnea?

Question:
I am curious if there are any medications used in the treatment of sleep apnea?

Answer:
Obstructive - There's nothing so far.

Central - Some antidepressants (Vivactil comes to mind) help some cases of central sleep apnea.

not directly. However, there are often other issues as well as sleep apnea where medications are used. Obstructive Sleep Apnea is a closing of the airway, cutting off the air to the lungs and resulting in oxygen deprivation and carbon dioxide poisening. Have you had a sleep test?

I was inquiring for a friend who is awaiting a sleep study, and in the process trying to educate myself a little on the subject at the same time.

My heart goes out to all that are having to deal with this problem. I never realized how serious this condition could be.
