Question:
I've read quite a bit about the sleep issue, but haven't found a definitive
solution. Is there such a solution? My Wallstreet 300/DVD/192MB/8.6 won't
sleep automatically. I've reset the power manager and performed a few other
rituals, with no effect.
While I'm at it, some time ago I turned off the little battery icon in the
menu bar and I can't remember where I did that. How do I turn it back on.
Answer:
You are aware, I presume, that Appletalk is a leading cause of insomnia on
PowerBooks? It's documented somewhere, can't recall where. For example, if
you ever connect to an Appletalk server your machine won't sleep (until
after a reboot). It is certainly true on the PB G3, PB1400, and PG5300s we
use. I can't recall if this also applies to Appletalk printer usage or
not.
You change the battery icon in the Date & Time control panel on the Menubar
Clock option.
Did you try reinstalling the Energy Saver control panel? How about
installing an older version from System 8.5 or 8.5.1?
