Question:
Prozac, Zoloft, Luvox and Effexor have all caused my insomnia that I normally
have to worsen. It's terrible! I advocate the use of Ambien. It saved my
butt!
Answer:
I usually lurk here, but I have a question. For those on Zoloft ( I am on
100mg/day)
Does any one suffer from Sever insomnia??
For example one Friday I awoke at 0630 and did not get a wink of sleep till
the following Tuesday night at 0200 hrs. I feel great on the Zoloft but this
insomnia is beginning to effect my work, Please will some one give me some
answers,
I used to take the Zoloft @ night but it made me feel drowsu, I now take it
with my breakfast,
I have never heard of Ambien, what is it, a prescribed men, herbal, ?
I had insomnia also from Zoloft. I had trouble getting to sleep and I
sleep only for 2 - 3 hours. I talked my doctor into giving me Trazodone
and it eliminated the sleep problem. I take 50 mg about 20 minutes
before bedtime, I sleep deep and wake up rested and not drowsy. YMMV.
I was also on zoloft for a while (100mg in the morning), and had trouble
sleeping. My pdoc put me on trazodone 50mg at bedtime, and it was a
tremendous help. It
took some time, and I suffered from side effects for the first few weeks
(mostly grogginess in the morning) but I went from 3 hours of sleep a night
to my normal 8 hours.
I took Zoloft (50mg) from about !992 until just a few weeks ago. Sleep was
something that was almost just a fond memory. IF I slept at night at all, it
was for a couple of hours. I learned to nap in the daytime. Yeah, I know, it's
not reccomended if you have insomnia, but you've got to sleep sometime.
One word of WARNING: Do not take any of the OTC sleeping aids that contain
Benedryl (I'm not sure of the generic term right now) and most of them do
contain this substance -- it's the part that makes you drowsy. Any of the
preparations that end in PM (Tylenol, Excedrin, etc.), as well as Nytol and the
others all have this as their active sleeping aid to the best of my knowledge.
I took these over the years to help me sleep and I now have a pacemaker as a
result. The truth is, I am lucky to be here. Somehow, taking the sleeping aids
continuously and combining them with Zoloft messed up my heart rhythm. I now
have Bradycardia, which is a very slow heartbeat and the pacemaker helps
regulate it.
Zoloft worked great as an AD, but I'm glad to be off it. After a number of
years, I sarted gaining a lot of extra weight and finally figured out it was
the medication, thanks to the good folks in this group. I'm now trying St.
John's Wort, Kava and 5-HTP. It has been a bit rocky, but it seems to be
smoothing out. I am sleeping much better now, usually about 6 hours, but once
I even made 7 and a half! :-)
