insomnia in children ?

Question:
My eldest son is eight years old and recently has been having trouble seeping. He finds it hard to get to sleep and then will wake up during the night at least twice. I have to go into his room and talk to him and reassure him. He is usually a very good sleeper. We are going to see a child phycologist as it is starting to take it's toll. Otherwise he is a happy and easy going child. School is back soon and he is just so tried. Any other mum's out there experienced such a sleeping problem in a child of this age??

Answer:
Is there anything new going on around the house? Or could he possibly be stressing over school starting? Whenever our YS has sleep problems, there's usually something bothering him that he's not talked to us about.

If he has AD/HD, a warm bath right before bedtime will wake him up and he'll have even more trouble sleeping. Evening baths for ADDers need to be finished *at least* an hour before bedtime.

I initially thought that it was school, as he was having a few problems. Yet, when school finished for the year, the sleeping problems continued. They have become worse just before his return to school (it starts next week) I do think that school has to do with it..Last night was particularly bad, with lots of tears. He took three hours to fall asleep. And woke about three times, hence we are al tired and it will be a very subdued Sunday.Hopefully the child phycologist will be helpful as we are all at our wits end....
