My sleep disorder is gone... Where did it go???

Question:
I am cured!!! Just kidding, but it seems that there is no reason for my Excessive Daytime Sleepiness / Idiopathic Hypersomnolence....

My first sleep study in Kitchener, Waterloo in 2001 was great. I fell asleep in 2 minutes and 8 seconds.... woke only 2 times briefly through the night. Diagnosis --> UARS.... Sleep study #2 for titration, as I was prescribed CPAP for 8 months, though I had no success.

Family physician felt that I had been wrongly diagnosed, so refered me to one of his colleagues at a clinic in Hamilton, Ontario....Sleep study #3 was an MSLT in July 2002, done at this clinic - Narcolepsy was ruled out.....

Sleep study #4 was done on April 26, 2002, same clinic as my MSLT (Hamilton, Ontario).... very uncomfortable environment... felt like I hardly slept at all. Kept tossing and turning all night. The oximetry unit was so tight, my finger was throbbing.... They kept changing it to different fingers. I kept getting tangled up in all the wires..... Absolutely horrendous night, it was.... Noisy atmosphere too....

Answer:
what can i say?? at least the new Dr isn't just brushing you off, and he's titrating the meds

still gotta wonder about sleep apena though, eh?

I can remember when you first posted about the change in doctors. That sure seems to be turning out well.

I'm curious about the oximeter tightness. The two I've used at home had velcro, which I adjusted for my own comfort. I don't even remember the ones for my PSG or two titrations.

Did the tech put it on, or did you? The fact that it was noted and suggested that it could have been a major problem is wonderful. Sometimes these kinds of things are easy to overlook.

I'm looking forward to hearing about every step in your pursuit to feel better. Sounds like Shapiro is a winner.

Oh I know.... it's just very frustrating.... You say that one should still wonder about sleep apnea.... Wouldn't that have shown on my sleep study results?

Raises the question of whether your sleep tests have cleared you for both OSA and CSA. I, personally, get concerned when an evaluation report by a sleep doc does not mention CSA at all, as opposed to saying "CSA: None". This is because no mention at all could mean "overlooked".

.... Way back, I had changed sleep clinics.... I had been going to the new doctor there, and then last appointment, he told me that it would be the last time I'd see him. He was moving on to another city to practise..... Today was the first time I saw this new one... The oximeter was a clip style.... the same as what we've used when I used to work in hospitals... (There's one on this website that will give you a basic idea - http://www.portablenebs.com/nonin9500.htm - It's not exact, and mine didn't have the LED's right on it, but the clip is the same...) She said it was a new one, so it could be a little stiff.... she found an older one, which seemed less tight... She taped the wire so tightly around the knuckle on my index finger, and I couldn't even bend it. It was cutting off circulation.... so we tried it without tape.... The doctor today said that I must have sensitive fingers, yet the lab tech told me that night, that a lot of people find them too tight....
