Question:
I need a long-term solution to chronic insomnia. My prescription plan
will only give me 14 Ambien CR every 30 days. Without Ambien CR, my
days are 38 to 54 hours long. I would like to get off SS Disability
and go back to work.
Answer:
Sorry, the only long term solution I can think of would be to find out the
reason
for the insomnia, provided it is real insomnia ( GP's usually have little or no
experience nor info on most sleep disorders).
So. who dx you and how, and what medical conditions have you ruled
out/ looked at as possible causes?
And BTW any "weird" things when asleep/ almost asleep?
Another internet resource you can look at is the insomnia forum at
sleepnet
http://www.sleepnet.com/insomnia/insomniainf.html
They have many years of posts from people also suffering from insomnia
and good advice for overcoming it.
I am also struggling with insomnia and have become convinced that for
me medication causes more problems than it helps. Of course, YMMV and
as Paula said, the first thing to do is rule out medical causes such as
apnea. But if your insomnia is due to anxiety then try to deal with
that. It can be done and there are many inspirational accounts of
people who have done it on this forum and at other places on the net.
