Question:
Does anyone know if celexa causes or aggrivates already existing
Insomnia. I am an insomniac and it was made worse by Fibromyalgia.
However, I have been getting some sleep. That is, until this
psychiatrist upped my dosage of Celexa from 20 to 30mg a day. My body
is extremely sensitive to meds. Anyhow, I stopped sleeping completely
since last saturday when I upped the dosage. I finally slepped last
night after a high dosage of Valerian. I just need to know if anyone
knows or has experience with Insomnia with Celexa. I will be speaking
with my cbt about it this saturday. She didn't prescribe the higher
dose. It was someone else.
Answer:
Alot of anti-depressants can cause or exacerbate insomnia. When I was weaning
on Paxil, it exacerbated my insomnia, after a few weeks it went away and now I
sleep real well. You should start sleeping better soon, just give it time.
If you take your Celexa in the PM, a switch to the AM "may" help.
all of the ssri's can and do-mostly as you have noticed it is dose dependant
and dependant on when you take the drug-these drugs seem to have a push pull
effect-being both sedated and inervated simultaneously-for fibromyalgia I have
found the tca's part elavil and sinequan to be the best for sleep related
flares-the ssri's seem to be less effective imo
When was the dose raised, Raquel? I think your insomnia, in so far as it
is Celexa induced, will be temporary. It would maybe have been easier to
go from 20 to 25 mg first, especially as you're so sensitive to meds.
I just went on celexa for this 4th day. i read the insert and it says
celexa is only available in 20mg or 40mg pills maybe just in the USA
anyway i'm real busy since i started. to busy to sleep, to busy busy
busy..
If you want to wean on slower (which definitely is advisable to most) you
can break the tabs in two and buying a pill cutter at the pharmacy makes it
possible to wean on in increments of 5 mg.
