Need GEODON insomnia cure ideas ?

Question:
I came down with schizophrenia about 4 years ago and went disastrously untreated for 3 of those years. When I was finally suicidal enough from delusions to try drugs, I tried Zyprexa and Risperdal, which didn't do anything and left me still convinced my delusions were real. Finally I tried Geodon, and the delusions went away.

Now, however, insomnia is a big problem. I never had sleep problems before Geodon, but now I'm back in school and only getting 2-3 hours of sleep per night. Here is a list of the ineffectual insomnia drugs I have tried taking w/ Geodon: Clorazepate Trazodone Temazepam Lorezepam Clonazepam

Answer:
I take geodone and also it has helped me a lot. I have also been on zyprexia and risperdal and haldol with no luck. I also get insomnia real bad on this stuff and I use sonata and ambien (both 10Mg) and have a little success. Warm milk seems to help a bit too. Maybe someone here will have a better answer than this. It does seem to have stopped the voices and paranoia for the most part.

I had that same problem w/geodon--I think I went 3 solid months w/o sleep and the worst thing that happened was combining sleep drugs w/it!! Be careful!! I had a slight amount of urinary retention (which is listed a an uncommon side effect) and I took sonnata--a sleepping pill--(which does NOT have urinary ret. as a side effect) and I woke up in the am (after 3 hours of sleep) with my bladder so full I couldn't walk. I could not go--I ended up in the ER having to get cathed. They removed 2 liters of fluid (no wonder it hurt so much) something could have ruptured. Be cautious with mixing those combos--I don't know if my case was a fluke (I am sensitive to alot of things) but I tell you it was a miserable experience. I never could sleep on it--my pdoc kept jacking the dose up and up and up until I had delusions.

You're funny Grrr. 1 mg. about one hour before I want to sleep. It can't be taken too late, though, because of the hangover effect. Apparently, melatonin is the brain chemical that induces sleep. Less of it is produced as we age, so the older we get, the less we seem to need sleep. I wish there was a Dayatonin that would keep me steady during the day.
