Question:
A few months ago I was watching this special on this man that severely beat his
wife in his sleep, and woke up the next morning and knew nothing about it. He
didnt remember anything that happened during the night.
Ive heard a few stories like this before. Is there a name for this? Is it
some kind of condition, or is it just classified under sleep walking/sleep
terrors?
Id like to do a report on this, and cant seem to find any info on it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Answer:
I've heard of this happening....and in the news recently (Australia) there
was a story about a baby who was what seemed violently murdered while his
mother slept in the very same room. The mother denies any knowledge of what
happened and although there must have been some noise says she heard
nothing. When i saw the report,i thought of this disorder and wonder if the
mother killed the baby in her sleep... what a sad thing if that's what
happened. This was just my personal opinion and i've only the news report
to go on to base that opinion on... so there may not be any evidence of this
happening at all.....just what came to mind when i saw it... tragic story
whether it happened this way or not.
It is called REM disorder and normally a person's muscle do not move in REM
but those with this order are able to move. The beating is not what those
do with this disorder but the movement. One woman jumped through a window.
As far as stories you would have to look in sleep books, the library might
have some.
