Question:
I was wondering, now that Sleep Apnea is "officially" recognized by the
medical profession, is actually Chronic Fatigue Syndrome? You do not hear
much anymore about CFS. If I remember correctly, the symptoms of CFS are the
same or similar to SP
Answer:
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is any of a number of related illnesses, some of
them viral. Many of the viruse in the herpesvirus family can cause CFS
symptoms, especially HHV-4 (Epstein-Barr) and HHV-5 (Cytomegalovirus).
Certainly, sleep apnea can be one cause of chronic fatigue, but it is not
the only cause.
Also, be careful of comparing diseases with lots of similar non-specific
symptoms.
