chronic fatigue and building endurance?

Question:
Please give me sugestions on how best to build my endurance. I am not able to swim very hard very often because I become ill if I push to hard(swollen glands, muscle aches, low grade fever, etc). Has anyone else experienced this or a similar immune system problem and tried to build endurance? I'd be interested to know what is found

Answer:
One organic cause of chronic fatique syndrome is a low level of one of the sub-classes of IgG (an immunoglobulin). This makes one more vulnerable to recurrent, low grade infections. This requires an immunoelectrophoresis or immunodiffusion study on a blood sample.

Most cases of chronic fatique syndrome are idiopathic (without definable cause) and untreatable. Some are thought to be psychological in nature. But it is worthwhile ruling out an organic cause. For example, low IgG can be treated with monthly injections of gamma globulin.

You should see a doctor who has published extensively in this area. Doing a Medline search (a local medical library could do this if you are unable to do this "online") for papers on "chronic fatigue syndrome" will give you the names of many experts around the country.
